There is a parrot on sale in a pet store. It is a b1. red and blue bird. It sits on a perch(棲枝) in the middle of the store. so that everyone can see it when they come in. The owner(主人) is very happy and asks a high p2. for it.

One day a man g3. into the store. “That’s a beautiful bird.” he says to the pet store owner, “But why is it so expensive(昂貴的)？ Is it unusual bird?”

“No, it’s not very unusual. It’s expensive because it can talk and I spend much time t4.it.” the pet store owner says.

“I see. How can I m5. it talk?” the man asks.

The pet store owner asks him. “Do you see those strings(帶了) tied to each of the bird’s l6. ?”

“Yes,” the man answers.

“Well, you pull(拉) those strings.” the pet store owner tells. “ That will make the parrot talk.”

The man asks, “Could I have a try”?

“Sure ,” the pet store owner says.

The man w7. up to the parrot ad pulls the string on its left leg. The parrot says. “Good morning.”

The man pulls the string on the parrot’s r8. leg. This time the parrot says, “How are are today?”

“That’s not very i9. ” says the man, “Any parrot can do that.” Then he laughs, “But what will happen (發(fā)生) if I pull both strings at the same time?”

“I’ll fall off my perch, you fool! You want to k10. me.” the parrot says.
