Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness and worry. Anxiety can show up in a lot of ways. For example, trouble concentrating(專心), an upset stomach or sleeplessness. And anxiety can be one of the most serious challenges that students face today. Yet, it can also be one of the most hidden and unknown.
Perhaps you've seen the increase in anxiety in your classroom and school, maybe around testing seasons, or even your classmates experiencing hurt. You know anxiety is more than just“worries”. Anxiety can influence classroom performance just as much as any other learning disability.
According to the Child Mind Institute, health-care providers have seen a 17 percent increase of anxiety in children over the past 10 years. But there aren't many more students seeking help and care. In fact, less than one percent of students will seek anxiety treatment.
Students who are worried and anxious aren't doing it on purpose. The nervous system acts automatically(自動地), especially when it comes to worry. That's why phrases like "just relax" or "calm down" aren't helpful. But with practice, students can learn to slow down their anxious brains. Here are two helpful suggestions.
Firstly, practice deep breaths. When people slow down their breathing, they slow down their brain. Slow, deep breaths are the key. It works every time.
Secondly, take a break and go outside. Being out in nature can also calm an anxious brain. Sometimes just a change of scenery is what makes the difference. Breathing the cool air or making time to notice singing birds can also calm an overactive worrier. As students, you can observe the environment carefully. How many different kinds of trees do you see? How many different bird songs do you hear? How many different colors are in the grass? That can help you turn the focus away from your worries.
Don't set anxiety up as something you want to get rid of. It's a part of your life, and it will not go away completely. What you should do is to face it bravely and learn to deal with it.

How many of you feel that you really should be working harder? At the same time, how many of you wish you had more time to have fun and enjoy yourself? So how can you solve this paradox (悖論)?
1.Sometimes a tight schedule can leave you feeling burnt out. On the other hand, spending most of your time on leisure (休閑) often means you don’t end up getting anything done. So how can you achieve a balance between work and leisure?

Dog’s Best Friend
Jarrett Little was road testing his mountain bike outside of Columbus, Georgia, when his riding partner, Chris Dixon, stopped suddenly. Something nearby moving among the trees had caught her attention. It turned out to be a sandy-colored five-month-old dog.
“He was really thin, and had a broken leg,” Little told CBS News. The cyclists fed the friendly dog and shared their water. They also quickly realized that the dog was coming with them, although they had no idea how. They were more than seven miles from downtown and riding bikes. “We couldn’t leave him,” Little said. “Out there next to the Oxbow Meadows, he was going to end up as alligator (短吻鱷) food.”
Little, a 31-year-old business owner, had an idea. He carefully picked up his new friend and put the 38-pound dog’s back legs into the pockets of his cycling shirt. Then he placed the dog’s front legs over his shoulders.
“He was hurt, so he wasn’t trying to fight,” Little says. “He was also happy that we were there, touching him, and hadn’t taken off on him.”
Their 30-minute ride into town ended at a bike store, where they got more water and food for the dog. “That was when Andrea Shaw, a company worker, happened by. The dog went straight to her, smelling and “l(fā)oving on her,” says Dixon. Shaw was touched and, after learning what had happened, decided to keep the dog.
Shaw called him Columbo after the town where they’d met and planned an operation on his leg. Today, Columbo is living the high life on a farm with a horse and a six-year-old boy to keep him company. As Dixon said, “He is really the luckiest dog alive.”
1.Why did Dixon stop suddenly during the road testing?
A.She noticed something moving among the trees.

Walter Dean Myers, born on August 12, 1937, was an American writer of children’s books. He was known for young adult literature (文學(xué)). He wrote more than 100 books, including picture books and non-fiction. “I care about writing for young people because I remember how much I needed help and guidance at that time in my life," Myers said in his book.

Wind power is a very clean source of energy. This is how wind power works. Wind makes windmills spin (旋轉(zhuǎn)). When the windmills spin, they make electricity. Then we can use the electricity. A lot of people think that wind power is new, but that’s not true. For thousands of years, people have used wind to sail boats and move water. We still do those things today, but these days we mostly use wind power to make electricity.
Wind power is a very popular source of energy. Most people think that we should use it more and more. First of all, it’s clean. Windmills don’t pollute the environment at all. Second, we can use wind power forever. After all, we will always have wind. Also, wind power is cheap, and it’s getting even cheaper.
A lot of people don’t understand wind power very well. They believe that there are problems with wind power, but many of those problems are not real. For example, some people say that windmills are dangerous for birds. They used to be true, but it isn’t true anymore. Old windmills killed birds because they spun very fast. New windmills spin slowly, and they aren’t dangerous for birds.
However, there are real problems with windmills. One problem is that many people think windmills are very ugly. This is a problem for people, because windmills are often in very pretty areas. Also, wind doesn’t blow all the time, so we can’t use wind power all the time. Finally, windmills are noisy.
Wind power is becoming more and more common. Right now, more than 80 countries use wind power. About 2.5 percent of the world’s power comes from the wind. For some countries, that number is a lot higher. Wind power gives Denmark more than 25 percent of its electricity.
1.Why DON’T new windmills kill birds? Because .
A. birds don’t fly near them B. they spin slowly

2.When did people start using wind power?
A. About 25 years ago. B. About 80 years ago.
C. About 500 years ago. D. Over 1,000 years ago.
3. , so we CAN’T use wind power all the time.
A. Windmills break all the time B. We can’t use windmills at night
C. Windmills are too expensive to use all the time D. Wind doesn’t blow all the time
4.What does the article say about wind power?
A. Most people don’t like it. B. It’s getting cheaper.
C. Denmark doesn’t use it. D. It’s getting more expensive.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A. Expensive Windmills B. Cheap and Clean Energy
