Children dream about candy for weeks before Halloween, which falls on Oct 31 every year. They wear special clothes and go from house to house around their neighborhood asking for candy.

Candy is at the heart of Halloween. Americans enjoy candy more than people in any other country. According to a survey, Americans spent about $2 billion on candy during the Halloween season in 2010. An average Jack-o’-lantern bucket(桶)carries about 250 pieces of candy.

Kids like chocolate and candy apples, a special treat during Halloween. These are apples covered in a sweet syrup(糖漿), making a mixture of candy and fruit.

Yet October is not the only month that has candy treats. Every holiday season in the West has something to offer anyone with a sweet tooth. Candy has long been a favorite gift for both the young and the old.

Chocolate eggs are a symbol of Easter. The eggs are empty in the middle. In the UK, people eat about 80 million chocolate eggs every Easter.

Another festival full of treats is Christmas, one of the most important holidays for people in the West. In the days leading up to Christmas, some people in the UK get a chocolate calendar(日歷) that has 25 doors. Each day, people open one door and have a chocolate to help them count down the days until Christmas.
