　　Daniel Williams became a doctor in Chicago in 1882. After graduation, he taught at North-West University's medical school. He was asked by the president (總統(tǒng)) of the United States, Grover Cleverland, to go to Washington D. C. to head the Freeman's Hospital. It was one of the few hospitals for blacks in the country.

從湘西回來，和朋友們說起黑妮；說起在鳳凰的偶遇，說起跟她去苗寨跑了一天，看她做的種種事，感慨得很；說想起一句記不全的俗語，“什么什么像針挑土，什么什么像水推沙”，黑妮就是在針挑土；黑妮！黑妮……
一說起黑妮，腦子里一邊浮現(xiàn)她樸素清瘦的樣子，不知為什么有隱隱的心疼。鳳凰是她的故鄉(xiāng)，但和我們這些外人在一起，倒是她有幾分害羞靦腆。黑妮如今工作、居住在意大利，做湘西扶貧工作的時間不短了。最初是一幫一地助學，先后幫了幾十個孩子。前些年申請到一筆經費，設計了“湘援游”這個項目。如今每年都會回來幾趟，帶來游人，帶來捐款；關鍵是，耐心地、苦口婆心地，教苗族婦女如何保存她們優(yōu)美的刺繡藝術�！柏撠熑蔚穆糜巍�，聽黑妮說，這一旅游概念正在歐洲興起，它強調旅行者對目的地生存和文化的責任，在旅游資費中，捐出一部分作為扶持當?shù)乜沙掷m(xù)發(fā)展的基金。

下午去另一個苗寨，又是近兩小時車程�！斑@一個繡得比較好，就是村寨的形態(tài)不如老家寨，建了些新房�！焙谀輰σ粋€個目的地都很了解。等到回程，太陽已經有倦容了。
晚上我們在沱江邊吉夫開的咖啡館休息聊天。吉夫是湘援游志愿者，今天一路一直是他提著大包的棉線。黑妮的湘援游，就是靠這些當?shù)氐闹驹刚撸蝗∫缓恋馗冻�，才運作起來。今天開車的“李萬通”，也有自己的公司。
咖啡館的壁掛上有一個插頁，取下一看，是鳳凰手繪地圖，封面圖案取自傳統(tǒng)苗繡，那五彩靈動的喜鵲，我看得呆了一下，原來這樣好。地圖10元一份，買下可算對湘援游的支持，還可得一枚徽章作獎勵。我想了想，紅著臉買了四份，說回去送朋友。素靜的黑妮眼睛亮了。老天！
