　　When Thomas Edison was 15, a train accident hurt his ears. Once when he tried to jump on a moving train, a conductor grabbed (抓) his ears to pull him up. He soon began to lose most of his hearing. 　　After marriage Edison took his new wife to the new house he had bought at 97 Wright Street, in New York. As soon as they were in the house alone together for the first time, Edison began to think about a problem he was having with one of his inventions. He told Mary, his new wife, that he had to go to his office, but would soon return, Mary didn't want to anger him by asking him not to go. So, married only for one hour, the new husband ran to his business.

In one way, it may be thought that failure is a part of life. In another, failure may be regarded as a step towards success.

The “spider story” is often told as an example of this. Robert Bruce, leader of the Scots in the 13th century, was hiding in a hole on a hill from the English.
