In the future, we should never forget our society, parents, teachers and so on. At present, we should study harder in order to make our world more beautiful.

Thank you for your listening!

One possible version:

The topic of my speech today is “Learn to express thanks”. We find some students want to eat well and wear fashionable clothes at school. When they leave school and enter society, they don’t show any sense of thanks.

I think this behavior is not correct. As students, we should learn to express thanks. The society offers us a chance to receive good education. And our parents also support us to go to school. Our teachers teach us much knowledge, so we should thank them. We should also thank our friends because they give us courage and support.

In the future, we should never forget our society, parents, teachers and so on. At present, we should study harder in order to make our world more beautiful.

Thank you for your listening!

Have you ever dreamed of visiting a planet in the Milky Way? While the trip sounds exciting, it would take years and years to reach the place that we are going to. So in the future, bedtime for astronauts may be more than a few hours of regular shut-eye. They would have to sleep for years.

European researchers are now doing hibernation experiments. The study may help them understand whether humans could ever sleep through the years it would take for a space flight to distant planets. “If there was an effective technology, it could make deep-space travel come true,” said Mark Ayer of the European Space Agency last month.

What seems like science fiction is not completely impossible. Researchers have been able to use chemicals to put living cells into a sleep-like state where they don’t age. They have now moved on to small, non-hibernating mammals like rats. The results will be out soon.

A major challenge is the fact that cells can be very simple systems, but body organs are far more complex(復雜的).

“It's like moving from a simple Apple computer to a supercomputer,” said Marco Biggiogera, a hibernation researcher at Italy’s University of Pavia.

Just like bears and frogs, the hibernation of human beings would cause a person’s metabolism (新陳代謝) to lower so they would need less energy.

Medical research, however, is just half of a space flight hibernation system.

There is the challenge of designing a suitable protective place to live. Such a place would provide the proper environment for hibernation, such as the proper temperature. It would also have to monitor (監(jiān)控) life functions and serve the physiological needs of the hibernator.

According to Ayer, the six-person Human Outer Planets Exploration Mission to Jupiter’s moon (木星的衛(wèi)星) Callisto, could be an opportunity to use human hibernation. The mission aims to send six humans on a five-year flight to Callisto, where they will spend 30 days, in 2045.

Do animals have a culture? What do we mean by “culture”? Lately social scientists have begun to ask if culture is found just in humans, or if some animals have a culture too. When we speak of culture, we mean a way of life a group of people have in common. Culture includes the beliefs and attitudes we learn. It is the patterns of behavior that help people to live together. It is also the patterns of behavior that make one group of people different from another group.

Our culture lets us make up for having lost out strength, claws, long teeth, and other defenses. Instead we use tools, cooperate with one another, and communicate with language. But these aspects of human behavior, or “culture”, can also be found in the lives of certain animals. Animals can make tools, for example. We used to think that the ability to use tools was the dividing line between human beings and other animals. Lately, however, we have found that this is not the case. Chimpanzees can not only use tools but actually make tools themselves. Animals can also share knowledge with each other and use their own language to communicate. So it may be important for us to know that the line dividing us from animals is not as clear as we used to think.

1. When we talk about “culture”, we mean __________.

A. book language of behavior we learn

B. the patterns of behavior we learn

C. traditional ideas

D. people’s habits

2.We thought ________ was the biggest difference between human beings and other animals.

A. cooperating with one another

B. communicating with language

C. using tools

D. losing long teeth

3.The example of chimpanzees shows __________.

A. animals are the same as human beings

B. animals can be as clever as human beings

C. there is no differences between humans and other animals

D. animals may have a culture like our own

4. It’s ________ that animals have a culture too.

A. sure B. unbelievable

C. possible D. important

5. The main idea of the passage is _______.

A. chimpanzees can learn to use sign language to make sentences

B. other animals can invent tools

C. knowledge and communication are no longer signs of only human behavior

D. the line dividing human culture from animal culture is not as clear as we might think

As I stood outside with my two dogs yesterday , it was so cold that my nose and face felt frozen ( 結冰的).

Of course, that doesn’t matter to Ricky and Lucy. They have a habit that they must find a place to fight with each other no matter how cold or hot it is.

As cold as it was, I was excited thinking about how wonderful this special cold really was.

Then the sun broke through the clouds and memories of summer’s really hot days came through my mind. I could remember standing in heat of the afternoon, with sweat pouring down my head and the hot, burning sun against my face. I told myself then and there that in the cold of the winter I would wish I had this heat. Because of the special cold, I enjoy the heat more.

So I realized that without the extremes in my life, I would never appreciate the days

When things just right. without the extremes, life would be boring. For example, heath problems remind us that we need to pay more attention to how we live.

Now, I want to start finding a reason to be happy, even if it’s simply the fact that I’m still alive in the world.
