June 16th We arrived in South Africa today. Things aren't looking too good for England. We only drew the first game，1-1. The question now is: will we be able to enter next round？ Well，our next two games are against Algeria（阿爾及利亞）and Slovenia（斯洛文尼亞），so our chances must be good. |
June 18th England vs. Algeria We almost missed the beginning of the game because we weren't able to find a taxi to get us to the stadium（體育場）.The game was awful！Our great hope，Rooney，didn't do much. Sometimes I think he'll never be able to score for England again！Well，perhaps he'll be better in the next game. Hope so. |
June 23th England vs. Slovenia We didn't see this live as we couldn't get tickets. So we watched it on a big screen in the city centre. It was great there，the atmosphere（氛圍）was fantastic. There were people from all over the world and we could hear lots of different languages. We met some people from Slovenia. It's Germany next. |
June 26th We managed to get tickets for the round of 16 game tomorrow. England vs. Germany. Just don't ask how much the tickets cost. We spent the rest of the day doing a bit of sightseeing. It was great but I wasn't able to stop thinking about the big game.I'm so excited. |

【題目】 " Were the birds on the ice ducks or geese (鵝) ?" Cruz, 11 , and Anthony, 12，couldn't agree. There was only one way to find out. So on a cold January evening, the two friends took a risk onto the frozen(凍結(jié)的) lake near their homes.
"First,, we threw a stone onto the ice to test it. We thought it would hold our weight. Then we stepped on it," Cruz said. Anthony went first. He took a few steps, then... He fell through the seemingly frozen ice!
Cruz rushed to help his friend. The lake "ate" him, too. Cruz managed to lift himself out of the freezing water and onto some ice. He then tried to work his way toward Anthony. But the ice didn't hold, and he fell in again. This time, he couldn't get out.
The boys were up to their necks in icy water and quickly losing feeling in their arms and legs. Cruz had a sense that he was going to die.
Anthony's older sister had seen all this and started shouting for help. John Lavin, a neighbor driving nearby heard her. He quickly pulled over. He caught a nearby float(浮板) , kicked off his shoes. and ran into the water, clearing his way through the ice with his free hand. "It was kind of a ' Hulk smash’” Lavin later joked.
Lavin made his way to pull the boys back to land. They were taken to hospital immediately. The doctor said their five-minute stay in the water made their body temperature drop nearly ten degrees. Luckily, the boys got well soon. They admire their fearless neighbor just as Hulk, one of Marvel Superheroes.
