17.As part of a school programme, this year I went on a Himalayan trek with some of my classmates. We left for Delhi in mid-May by train. From there,we took trains and other forms of transport to finally reach Munsiari,Uttarakhand. The journey was long, but once we saw the mountains covered with snow, all the tiredness vanished and we started out the windows.
We rested at Sarmoli,a village in Munsiari, for a day.Early the next morning,a trek-loving couple gave us a lot of advice on how to pack and keep together as a group and other suggestions.Excited and still nervous,we started off.The trek was not a simple trek.We trekked till we reached the campsite(野營地) in the evening.Other than the physical challenge was the mental challenge of pushing yourself, dealing with personal difficulties and still remaining at one with the rest of the group.
With our emotions under control,we were able to appreciate the beautiful scenery. We walked through orests, hills, rivers and mountains. We saw a great many birds we had not seen before. It was interesting to note the big changes in the terrain(地形) as we climbed.
Eleven days of trekking passed by quickly, and then we had to go home.We had made the most of our trip and there are a large number of us in the group who are looking for an opportunity to go back there at some point or other!
