You might get into trouble for talking in class, but experts have found that talking to your classmates can be helpful. “Students should be encouraged to explain things to each other and to discuss things,” they say.

What helps you to learn? Do you like working in groups or do you prefer working on your own? Are there times when it's good to talk in a lesson?

Talking in class distracts (使分心) you from getting on with your work.

Eliza

At the end of the lesson, our teacher lets us talk about what we've learned in class. I think that's a good idea. It helps us to remember what we've done and we can ask questions.

Danny

Our teacher sometimes tells us off (責(zé)備) for talking in class. It's true that if you're talking too much, you won't hear what the teacher is saying, so you won't learn anything.

Judy

Sometimes I'm scared to ask the teacher a question, so I often ask a classmate instead of asking my teachers.

Tara

Sharing ideas with friends helps me to learn. And you can learn by comparing answers.

Sam

We are not allowed to talk during important subjects like science and math. That seems OK to me. You can't do experiments (實(shí)驗) and talk at the same time. You need to do experiments carefully!

Ted

I often get into trouble for talking too much. That's why I like my Chinese lessons. You have to talk a lot because you need to practice speaking Chinese.

Mario

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Some heroes, like Lucca, are not even humans. Lucca is a 12-year-old US military (軍隊的) dog. On April 5, she received an award (獎) for her brave military service.

Lucca and her owner, Christopher Willingham, traveled to London, England, to receive the PDSA Dickin Medal. It is the highest award for service animals.Lucca is the first US military dog to receive the medal. “Lucca is very clever and had an amazing drive (干勁) for work as a search dog,” Willingham said. “I am lucky to have served with her.”

During her six years of active military service, Lucca completed more than 400 jobs. She was trained to find explosive devices (易爆裝置). Lucca's skills protected the lives of thousands of people.

One day in 2012, she was searching for explosive devices with her trainer, Juan Rodriguez, as usual. Unluckily, she lost her left leg after walking on a device. She was quickly sent to hospital. Thanks to the doctors' help, Lucca was saved. During that time, Rodriguez remained at Lucca's side. “She had saved my life so many times — I had to make sure that I was there when she needed me,” Rodriguez said. “Within 10 days, she was walking again. Her fighting spirit was plain to see.”

Lucca doesn't work now and lives in California with Willingham and his family. “I'll do my best to keep her happy in her last years,” Willingham said.

Lucca is the 68th animal to receive the PDSA Dickin Medal since it was created in 1943. The award has been given to 31 dogs (including Lucca), 32 World War II messenger pigeons (信鴿), four horses and one cat.
