1.Nikola Tesla was a great inventor, engineer, and physicist. He is best known for his contribution to
the design of the modern alternating current (AC)(交流電) electricity supply system.
Tesla started working in the electrical fields before he came to work for Thomas Edison in the United
States in 1884.However,he soon made up his mind to set up his own labs and companies so as to carry on
further study of a range of electrical devices. His AC induction motor(交流感應(yīng)電動機) was given a
patent by George Westinghouse, who also hired Telsa as an expert to help develop a power system using
alternating current.
Tesla's achievements and his abilities to demonstrate his great inventions made him famous all over
the world.Although he made a large sum of money from his patents,he spent a great deal on various
experiments over the years. In the last few decades of his life,he ended up living in the limited place-
Room 3327of the New York Hotel, occasionally making unusual statements to the press.Because of such
kind of statements and the nature of his work over the years,Tesla gained a fame as"mad scientist".He
died in debt on January 7,1943.
Tesla's work became less and less known to the public after his death, but since the 1990s,his fame
has come back in popular culture. In 2005,he was listed as the top"100Greatest Americans".His work
and great inventions are also at the center of other theories and have also been used to support various
UFO theories and so on.In 1960,in honor of Tesla, the"tesla"was used in the SI unit(國際標準單
位)measure for magnetic field strength.

He is best known for his contributions"和第三段的第一句可知,Nikola Tesla對世界的貢獻是巨大的.
22.A. 從第二段中的"so as to carry on further study of a range of electrical devices"可知,Nikola Tesla自己創(chuàng)立公司和實驗室的目的是更好地研究開發(fā)電力設(shè)備.
Because of such kind of statements and the nature of his work over the years…scientist."
In 2005,he was listed as the top"100Greatest Americans".His work and great inventions are also at the center of other theories and have also been used to support various UFO theories and so on可知,Nikola Tesla最近幾年成了熱門人物,他的貢獻再次被人們肯定.
