    Consumers are being confused and misled by the environmental claims(聲稱)made by household products，according to a“green labeling(標(biāo)簽)”study published by Consumers International Friday．

    Among the report’s more outrageous(令人無(wú)法容忍的)finding―a German fertilizer described itself as“earthworm friendly”，a brand of flour said it was“non-polluting”．a(chǎn)nd a British toilet paper claimed to be“environmentally friendlier”．

    The study was written and researched by Britain’s National Consumer Council(NCC)for lobby group Consumers International．It was supported by the German and Dutch governments and the European Commission．“While many good and useful claims are being made，it is clear there is a long way to go in ensuring that shoppers are well informed about the environmental influence of products they buy，”said Consumers International director Anna Fielder．

    The 10-country study examined product packaging in Britain，Western Europe，Scandinavia and the United States．It found that products sold in Germany and the United Kingdom made the most environmental claims on average．The report focused on claims made by specific products，

such as detergent(洗滌劑)and garden products．It did not test the claims，but compared them to labeling guidelines set by the International Standards Organization (ISO)．

    Researchers documented claims of environmental friendliness made by about 2，000 products and found many unclear or too misleading to meet ISO standards．

    “Laundry detergents made the most number of claims with 158．Household cleaners were second with 145 separate claims，while paints were third on out list with 73．The high numbers show how confusing it must be for consumers to sort the true from the misleading，”said report researcher Philip Page．

    The ISO labeling standards ban unclear or misleading claims on product packaging，because terms such as“environmentally friendly’’and“non-polluting”cannot be proved．“What we are now pushing for is to have multinational corporations meet the standards set by the ISO，”said Page．

M：What do you want to do for your birthday．Emy?

W：Oh,Ted．Let's have a party．

M：You mean to have dancing，drinks，food，things like that?

W：I was thinking about a dinner party．

M：Okay，why not?How many people should we invite?

W：We’d better make it a small party．I don’t want to clean up after fifty people．

M：Neither do I．Hey，remind me to invite the Browns，OK?

W：You don’t really want to invite them．do yoa?

M：But Frank invited us to his last party，remember?

W：Oh。he and his wife almost talked my head off．

W：Yes。that's my whole family．

M：Oh．You look a lot like your mom…especially your eyes．Very deep。beautiful eyes．And the

  same figure…so．me shape．    

W：Hey，I don't want to hear that．I may look like my mom。But I really take after my dad．

M：Really，in what way?

W：We both have a thirst for adventure．My dad Was，like，into motorcycles when he Was young，

  you know．But that was before he was married．I've been riding a motorcycle myself since l was

  17．

M：You? No way!

W：Yes，I've always done something like that，like surfing，snowbearding．We didn’t tell my mom． though．She would have killed us ．

 M：Life as a lorry driver is not always easy，that's for Sure，and it carl be dangerous．I practically

   live on the road．My lorry is like my home．I travel non-stop delivering goods countrywide．

  Sometimes I drive for 15 hours without getting any rest，not even during the night．My record is

  20 hours of non―stop driving．For the past ten years I've been dndng across Europe and I have

  had my share of adventures and problems．You can’t imagine the tragic sometimes．What’s

  more．I also have to put up with drivers shouting atme as if it's my fault when there’s traffic．

  Anyway，I don’t care what they say．The world needs us lorry drivers．Without us there would

  be no food in the supermarkets，no petrol at the petrol stations…you uanle it，it just wouldn’t be there．
