It is located in the middle of Beijing. It was the Chinese Imperial Palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is the largest and most well preserved imperial residence in the world today. It has about 9,900 rooms under a total roof area of 150,000 square meters.
