Many young people in China know about Celine Dion (席琳•迪翁),the famous French Canadian pop singer. She sang the song “ My heart will go on” for the movie Titanic. But do you know she had already become popular before she sang this song.

Celine Dion’s hometown was in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She is the youngest of the fourteen children in a musical family. Her parents and the large family formed a singing group. They traveled and played folk music. They were well known in their hometown. Celine’s mother wrote her first song for her, and she recorded it with her brother when she was twelve years old. Then a local rock manager named Rene Angelil was interested in them. He asked Mrs Dion to take her two children to come to his office. Later on he gave strong support for Celine. Dragons are not real animals, but look like a combination (結(jié)合體) of many animals such as snakes, fish and deer. They have two horns (角) and a long moustache (胡子). With fantastic powers, they fly in the sky or swim in the sea. They can make rain, too. The Chinese dragon is a symbol of strength and good luck. The emperors of ancient China loved dragons. They are all very successful.

    There are also some traditional festivals about dragons in China, such as Dragon Head – Raising Day and Dragon Boat Festival. We have different kinds of activities to celebrate them. These two festivals come every year, but the Year of the Dragon comes every twelve years.

    The dragon is very important in Chinese culture. As the "descendants of the dragon", it is necessary for us to know the views on dragons in our culture. It can help us understand why our parents always want us to be " dragons".

BEIJIN—No Car Day was first started by 34 cities in France on September 22,1998.It was started to protect the environment, By now, more than 1,000 cities around the world have had a No Car Day.

         The first No Car Day in China was in Chengdu in 2001.Other cities ,including Taipei, Shanghai and Wuhua, also support the day.

    In Beijing, more and more people are joining in the activity. It asks the drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. Jerry Green went to spend a year at the South Pole Station (南極站)as the only doctor in 1998 when she 47. While working at the station that March. she discovered that there was a hard lump (腫塊) in her stomach. She knew it was cancer, but she wasn't able to go to a doctor for help.
